Jack Mannequin People and Things

After a long, anticipated wait, Jack's Mannequin fans were finally able to get their hands on the band's new album People and Things, Oct. 4. People and Things is the third studio album for the California rockers. It follows 2005's Everything in Transit and 2008's The Glass Passenger.

Fans have been anxiously waiting for its release since the July 21 announcement.  Accompanying the album is the People and Things Tour, which began Oct. 6 and runs through Nov. 12.

In a video posted on Jack's Mannequin's website, lead vocalist and pianist Andrew McMahon said he wanted to talk about the world he lives in on the album. He described his world as one where "love is not the stuff on greeting cards, but a trench war worth fighting. A world of tenuous connections drifting in and out of relevance."

The People and Things lead track, "My Racing Thoughts," is the only single to be released from the album as of its debut.

The song tells the story of a girl reading every thought racing through his mind as their relationship destructs.

In the beginning of the chorus McMahon sings, "We break with speed , That girl can read my racing thoughts."

"My Racing Thoughts" is a wise choice for the first single. Although it's not the best song the album has to offer, it is a good indicator of what the audience can expect.

Each of the 15 tracks on the album features the familiar Jack's Mannequin sound.

The background music is the usual mix between alternative and piano rock, and is accompanied by well-written, catchy lyrics.

McMahon delivers some of the album's best lines in the track "Broken Bird." He sings, "You knew when you met me,That I was a razor blade/In these halls of bad memories,I'll do what it takes just to cut them all loose." Because of these clever lyrics, backed by soothing cords, "Broken Bird" stands out from the rest of the album.

The song "Hostage" also has catchy lyrics. "I won't hold you hostage,And I won't set you free, I'll always keep the light on ,And you'll return to me,Please don't lose the keys," McMahon sings in the chorus.

Although the album has its finer points in cleverly written lyrics, it does have its negatives.

Had the band left the tracks "Platform Fire" and "10 Days Gone" off the album, it could have been better. In both, McMahon sounds whiny and miserable.

Despite a couple of bad tracks, overall, the album is pretty good.  Jack's Mannequin fans are sure to be delighted with the same, familiar sound applied to new, catchy lyrics and a tour to accompany the album as well.

Why Mannequins are Vital to Retail Stores in the UK & around the World

Valentino's Displays has been encouraged by the sale of its Mannequins. For a customer it must be intimidating because in some of the major retail stores there are usually a substanstial number of these in various poses and colours displaying attire.

If you don't use a changing room then the only way your know how anything will look like on is looking at a mannequin.

The retail industry uses props to generate sales and the more of their products they can display the more sales they will receive. If you think about it its not difficult to understand if there was nothing on display then you would have alot fewer sales because customers wouldn't know what there was on offer. So if all their products or a number of them were on display then the chance of them being sold is high because there being seen.

They were the subject of a cheesy movie that became one of the biggest hits of 1987. They were the subject of an even cheesier 1991 sequel. They have also arguably become one of the most prominent and powerful tools among successful clothing retailers worldwide. And mannequins continue to play a growing role in retail clothing sales today.

Beyond being unlikely movie stars, Mannequins are among the most effective sales tools in a retail clothing environment. But mannequins don't just sell the clothes they are wearing. They are actually important tools for selling all of the clothes around them as well. Mannequins show customers what the store is all about and they create an image within the mind of what to expect from the clothes the store carries.

The biggest thing that mannequins provide is a beacon to certain areas of the store. Mannequins dressed a certain way tell people who are in tune with that particular style that this area of the store is for them. They also are the most visible elements of the store from the outside. This is especially important in large malls where window shopping is the name of the game.

It is important that retailers think of their mannequins as an element of interior design within the store. Mannequins are important tools for all clothing retailers because they contribute to the store's overall ambience and personality. More than any other element of the store, the way mannequins are positioned and dressed tells passersby and shoppers what type of customer your store caters to. Be sure that the mannequins' appearance supports the mood and flavor you seek to create in the store.

The most important thing to remember is that customers view their favorite shopping destinations as reflections of their own personality. As a result, it is important to use mannequins to display your products in a way that your target customers will identify with.

How Mannequins Influence Consumer’s Decisions to Buy

If you don’t have mannequins in your store or boutique, then you could be making a big mistake.  There are so many benefits to having mannequins in the store that you probably haven’t even begun to imagine how they could help you.

Most retailers invest a little in mannequins simply to fill out their window displays.  Well, they soon discover that there are so many other benefits!  Mannequins can not only help you to make money, but can actually save you money, influence your customers to buy, reduce your losses, and save your employees’ time.  Here we’ve listed just a few ways that mannequins can help you.  Once you start getting into them you’re bound to discover new and exciting ways to use them.

Almost all sales are unplanned.  This is why it is so important to influence the people that pass by your store.  Consumers have a deep seeded desire to fit into a group or vision that they have of themselves.  When looking to buy clothing, they go through a process of imagining themselves wearing the clothes, what they might be doing while they are wearing them, and how that might make them feel.  If all areas of their decision making process are satisfied, they are likely to make a purchase.

Using a mannequin not only gives them the subconscious approval of other human beings, but also forces the image of the clothes being worn into the mind.  The consumer instantly starts going through the process in their mind whether they planned to or not.  Even if they would have never looked twice at the clothes on the rack, seeing them on the mannequin almost forces them to consider it.  This is a powerful marketing tactic that helps boost sales.

Mannequins throughout the store can help your customers to locate items that they may be interested in.  If they pass the front of the store and nothing really grabs them, they are likely to stop wasting time and leave.  But mannequins offer a big visual clue as to what is in store if they keep travelling deeper in.  They may see dress mannequins in the back that catch their eye.  Big hats or brightly colored clothing are helpful here, too.  This gives you the opportunity to have customers check out your other promotions along the way.

Mannequin displays can also help you to reduce losses.  Put them in areas where shoplifters might think that they will find some cover.  Mannequins, especially tall or elevated ones, give people the feeling that they are being watched.  This is often enough to deter a thief.  It is especially effective if you spotlight the mannequin or arrange things in a way that give the shoplifter little cover.  Don’t put circular racks in a back corner, it is too easy to hide from the cameras, mirrors, employees, etc.  Open bottom tables are better displays for these areas, or simply leave the floor clear and rely on spaced out gridwall or slatwall displays.
